MCDONOUGH PALLET RACK

# Pallet Racks in Stockbridge, GA

Stockbridge warehouse racking has to bridge two building generations.

## The Stockbridge warehouse setting

Around Eagles Landing, I-675 and Hudson Bridge Road at I-75 Exit 224, older distribution space sits within the same market as new high-clearance cross-docks. A rack plan that works in one will not necessarily transfer to the other. McDonough Pallet Rack starts with the particular building and the trucks operating inside it.

The northern Henry County setting places Stockbridge closer to I-285, with industrially zoned land remaining on Rock Quarry Road. For a 3PL fit-out or a warehouse re-layout, the working question is how much pallet access the operation needs while receiving and dispatch share the available footprint.

## Re-laying older distribution space before adding rows

A 712,040 square foot distribution building on Business Center Drive dates to 1995 and has direct Norfolk Southern rail access. Older Henry County and Eagles Landing stock can be roughly 24 ft clear. That makes beam-level spacing and loaded-pallet height especially important: adding an extra level on paper is not useful if the actual load cannot be handled there.

Begin a reconfiguration by mapping stock lines, occupied positions and the paths used to replenish them. Keep components scheduled for transfer identified separately from new rack material so the revised design has a clear scope. A different beam span may suit the current pallet mix better than the old arrangement. The loaded truck’s turning path also needs checking where a revised row end meets an established receiving route.

## New 40 ft cross-docks change the reach calculation

Stockbridge Logistics Center on Candler Road is about 498,000 square feet, with a minimum 40 ft clear height and a location roughly two miles from a full I-75 interchange. New distribution space also continues on Old Hudson Bridge Road, including an approximately 206,000 square foot building completed in 2025. Those buildings invite taller storage, but truck capability remains the controlling input for upper-level access.

Selective pallet rack suits a changing 3PL assortment because each pallet position remains directly accessible. Where reserve stock repeats in depth, compare a denser block against the added travel and inventory restrictions it creates. Do not assume that a 40 ft cross-dock should use the same rack height throughout. Shorter pick or staging zones may need different elevations from tall reserve rows even within a single tenant space.

## Rail receiving and highway dispatch on one drawing

Direct rail access changes where incoming material enters the building; highway-facing distribution changes how it leaves. Put both paths on the storage drawing rather than placing rack first and finding travel routes afterward. For Stockbridge’s older rail-served stock, identify the point where inbound pallets are checked, sorted and assigned to storage. The rack row nearest that point should reflect the loads actually arriving there.

A multi-stock 3PL should provide the widest pallet footprint, the heaviest routine load and any carton overhang. With mixed imports arriving through the regional Savannah freight corridor, a single nominal pallet size may hide handling problems. Aisle widths need to cover both normal placement and turning at row ends. We compare that physical envelope with the truck model and attachment specification before freezing the layout.

## A Stockbridge changeover without losing the working paths

Rack re-layouts often need to keep a portion of the warehouse operating while another zone changes. Set a temporary inventory boundary, choose the transfer route and decide which completed rows receive the displaced pallets. Georgia heat and summer storms influence crew coordination and rack unloading, particularly in non-air-conditioned buildings. Staging material in an active travel aisle should not become the default just because a changeover is underway.

When moving from a 1990s building to a new cross-dock, inventory counts alone do not define the new storage plan. Compare clear height, reach, doors and replenishment paths at both sites. A warehouse consultation can then separate rack transfer work from new system supply and installation. McDonough Pallet Rack serves Stockbridge about eleven miles from McDonough; send drawings of both spaces when relocation is part of the project.
